What
The IRA amended the 25C tax credit program for 2023
Consumers are eligible for 30% of the total cost of a qualifying home improvement; up to $1,200 for HVAC equipment (annual cap)
Up to $600 for qualified air conditioners and gas furnaces with a $1,200 limit per house house
Up to $2,000 for qualified heat pumps
When
The program will begin January 1, 2023
Qualifications are based on the highest CEE (Consortium of Energy Efficiency) tier (not advanced tier) at the start of each year
Why
The program is designed to incentivize high efficiency HVAC replacements and has been enhanced to drive toward electrification and carbon reduction goals.

Incentive Amount
For households with annual income less than 80% of the local mean area income: 100% of the installation cost up to the individual amounts to left or a total rebate of $14,000.
For households with annual income between 80% and 150% of the local mean area income: 50% of the installation cost up to the individual amounts to left or a total rebate of $14,000. (Note: 50% of the installation cost not 50% of the rebate max)
