We Use ClimateMaster Geothermal Heating

ClimateMaster’s geothermal heat pumps are Energy Star qualified by virtue of them being up to 400-600% efficient, when in comparison the gas furnace with the highest efficiency is only 98% efficient.

Deluxe can install one of these systems for you so you can enjoy savings of up to 80% in your cooling, heating, and hot water costs.

How Does Geothermal Work?

The ground absorbs about half of the solar energy our planet is subjected to. Consequently, the earth remains at a consistent temperature just below its surface, regardless of the season.

Geothermal works as a result of the ground under our feet being cooler than the outside air in the summer and warmer in the winter. Placing a series of small-scale pipes into the ground permits heat to be moved to and from your house. Using this system, no fuel is burned because the heat is not being created, merely moved.

Winter

These underground pipes, or a ground loop as they are called, circulate water which soaks up the heat from the ground and then sends it back to the heat pump located indoors. This heat pump extricates the heat from the liquid then dispenses it completely through your house as warm air.

With the heat now removed, the water is now re-circulated to gather more heat from the earth. In this instance, the loop water is now warmer when it enters the house than when it returns into the ground, because the heat is being extracted.

Summer

The indoor heat pump transports the hot air away from your house and discards the heat. This process leaves behind cooler air to be dispensed throughout your house through the vents as AC. The heat that is removed from the air is expelled into the ground by way of the ground loop.

In this instance, the water is warmer exiting the house than when it comes back because heat is dropped into it.

Geothermal Tax Credits

Federal Tax Reform was released back in October 2017 by the U.S. House of Representatives and for the geothermal industry; lawmakers have restored the tax credit that allows most homeowners to get back 30% of the geothermal installation cost, which remains until 2019.

It has dropped to 26% in 2020 and 22% in 2021; 2022 forward will be pending on bills passed.

To qualify, these systems must have been placed in service on or after January 1, 2009. Additionally, the geothermal heat pump used has to meet federal Energy Star standards. The home served by the system does not have to be the principal residence of the taxpayer to qualify.
